COLBY, Kan. – A record-setting performance by Coffeyville Community College quarterback John Nicholas, along with big efforts from Butler Community College defensive end Justin Mitchell and Hutchinson Community College return specialist Karlan Ransom, has led to the trio being named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Football Players of the Week.

John Nicholas (Coffeyville) – KJCCC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Nicholas slinged the ball all over the field on Saturday, going 22-of-29 for 384 yards and six passing touchdowns as the Red Ravens defeated Highland 44-28. The redshirt sophomore tied the Coffeyville single-game passing touchdown record and added 31 rushing yards on four attempts while not turning the ball over. Nicholas had touchdown passes of four yards, seven yards, 13 yards, 24 yards, 25 yards, and 31 yards, helping CCC score 37 straight points after trailing 7-0 midway through the first quarter.

Justin Mitchell (Butler) – KJCCC Football Defensive Player of the Week
Mitchell lived in the backfield of a 10-6 defensive battle win for the number eight-ranked Butler football team, recording eight total tackles and 3.5 sacks from his edge position. The freshman saw four of his eight tackles end up as tackles for loss, accounting for nearly 50 yards lost for the Ellsworth offense due to his constant disruption.

Karlan Ransom (Hutchinson) – KJCCC Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Sophomore return specialist Karlan Ransom stepped in for an injured Aiden Bruce and became the fourth Blue Dragon return specialist to score a touchdown this season, leading the top-ranked Blue Dragons to a 59-0 win over 12th-ranked Dodge City on Saturday at the Gowans Stadium. In the game, Ransom had eight returns for 84 yards but electrified the crowd with a 60-yard return for a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter. The four players returning kicks for scores are the most in Blue Dragon football history for a season.
