STEPMC’s mission statement is to walk alongside people until they are out of poverty. STEPMC provides a framework for people to build relationships across economic and class lines. We form a community around those in poverty, foster connections, and create pathways of opportunity and success so that people can overcome poverty.

Each year at Christmas, the McPherson Resource Council provides baskets of food and ingredients for a Holiday Meal to over 180 families, comprising over 650 individuals. Families with income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guideline are eligible for all aspects of the Christmas Project, which includes food, gifts for children and teens, etc. They purchase all the food and distribute it to ensure safe, consistent items for all families. They  rely on monetary donations from the community to fund this program, and however much they fundraise determines how many families they can help.

Outreach McPherson (Not Pictured) $1,250

Outreach McPherson is a nonprofit ministry that distributes new or used furniture to those in need. They collect furniture and store it in storage units until there is a request. They accept new and gently used furniture such as couches, tables, chairs, beds, dressers and more.

Volunteer of the Month: Carol Ingermanson

Carol Ingermanson

The ReUse It Center has named Carol Ingermanson as the Volunteer of the Month for October.

“Carol has been volunteering for the past 8 years as a cashier on Thursdays and Saturdays,” stated The ReUse It Center. “She always has a big smile and a great sense of humor!!”

When asked why she started volunteering, Ingermanson told The ReUse It Center, “I was a frequent shopper here, and one day Lavon accosted me and asked me if I’d like to volunteer. I was a teacher at the time, so I started volunteering as a cashier on Thursdays. I really enjoy interacting with the customers and working with the other volunteers!”
