RENO COUNTY, Kan. – On October 5, 2026, at approximately 7:37 a.m., deputies with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, alongside Reno County EMS, Haven EMS, Reno County Fire, Kansas Highway Patrol, and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, were dispatched to the intersection of Boundary Road and Victory Road in southeastern Reno County following reports of a multi-vehicle injury accident. While emergency personnel were en route, dispatch updated responders that a pedestrian had likely been struck.

Upon arrival, deputies determined that two separate collisions had occurred in rapid succession at the same location. In the initial incident, a juvenile driver operating an eastbound 2013 Ford Edge crossed the center line to make a gradual left turn on Boundary Road and struck a westbound 2017 Toyota RAV4 driven by Ayat Tbaba of Mount Hope.

Following the initial crash, a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country driven by Nicholas Meyer of Mount Hope and a 2018 Ford Edge driven by Geralynn Hilger, also of Mount Hope, brought their vehicles to a complete stop in the eastbound lane. A 2010 Mercury Milan, driven by a juvenile, then struck the rear of the stopped 2018 Ford Edge. The impact forced the Ford Edge into the Chrysler Town & Country and struck a pedestrian, identified as Nicholas Hilger of Mount Hope, who had stopped nearby after witnessing the crash and exited his vehicle to render medical aid.

Nicholas Hilger was transported by emergency medical services to an area hospital in critical condition. Geralynn Hilger and the juvenile driver of the 2013 Ford Edge were also transported to an area hospital in stable condition, while all other involved parties were evaluated by EMS and released at the scene. Vehicles were removed by JSeven Towing and Hutch Towing and Recovery.

The incident remains under investigation by the Reno County Sheriff’s Office.
