LYONS, Kan. – The City of Lyons will soon lay claim to having the world’s largest saltshaker. Last week the city was awarded a $14 thousand grant by Kansas Tourism for the project, which will be placed on a vacant lot at the southeast corner of East Avenue and Commercial.
Lyons Salt Company and Compass Minerals along with other local donors are also providing support for the project, one of three planned for that area. Grant applications are pending for two other components, one a mural and the other a public art project based on three salt cars to be brought up from the city’s underground mine.
