McPHERSON, Kan. — Isaiah Rivera, of McPherson was sworn in as the McPherson KS Police Department‘s Honorary Officer on March 15, 2024.
In a statement on social media, the McPherson Police Department shared, “Isaiah has shown true bravery in his battle against cancer and his courageous spirit has not wavered.”
Isaiah’s Oath of Office:
“On my honor, I will never betray my integrity, my character, or the trust of my parents. I will always have the courage to hold myself and others accountable for their actions. I will always try to be strong and brave. On those difficult days, I will remember I have the support of the McPherson Police Department. From this moment on, I am an Honorary Police Officer, and the McPherson KS Police Department is now a part of my family, my journey, and my fight.”
A fall at school led to life changing news for Isaiah and his family a few months ago as they were told he had a tumor on his brain.
On Jan. 24, Diana Haynes (Isaiah’s mother) shared on the GoFundMe page that the tumor was found to be cancerous and was diagnosed as Medulloblastoma.
“He will be doing radiation and chemotherapy,” Haynes said.
Isaiah’s recovery is expected to take a year.
“Everyone, please keep us all in your prayers as we try to navigate through everything, Haynes asked. “We have other kiddos that are going to be going through a lot while AJ and I are trying to get Isaiah healed.”
Isaiah was released from Children’s Mercy Hospital on March 8. He has radiation treatment until April 3 in Kansas City as well as outpatient rehab.
