HUTCHINSON, Kan. – “Eat a Donut and support a child this summer!”   That’s what Major Paul James, Commanding Officer of the Hutchinson Salvation Army, says as the local assistance agency begins summer efforts to help as many people as financially possible. One of those ways is by sending kids to camp for the cost of only $20 per camp. At their Three Trails Camps in the KC area, each child gets to experience Sports camp, Music camp, Character Building camp, Teen camp, and Kids camp along with the opportunity to gain experiences they don’t typically get to experience.

This Thursday, May 21 at 6:00 pm during Third Thursday, The Salvation Army is having a Donut Eating Contest at Grasshopper Park on the corner of Ave A and Main St. However, it will take place at The Salvation Army located at 700 N Walnut if it gets rained out. It will also take place on Facebook Live and the link will be on The Salvation Army’s Facebook Page. They will have roughly 16 competitors who will try to eat the most donuts in 5 minutes to help raise funds for kids to go to camp. Their goal is to raise $6,000 and are currently at $3,997 as competitors are making their last push to help reach the goal.

Major James says, “A week of camp experience is a chance of a lifetime for many kids who’s parents can’t afford to send their kids.” However, the cost of sending a child to camp cost way more than $20. You can go to ThreeTrailsCamp.org to sign your child up or to check out the camp and only pay $20 by using the Discount Code: HN2026

You can help in several ways. Come down and eat a free donut or two, bring your cash or checks to vote for your favorite contestant so they can win the Raising the Most Dough Award, or go online to salarmy.us/hutchinsondonutday to vote for your favorite contestant to win the People’s Choice Award. You can also go to The Salvation Army of Hutchinson’s Facebook Page and click on the link. “All in all it’s a fun event to help support our struggling youth and families here in Reno County”, said Major James.

Please call Major James at 620-663-3353 with any questions on how to donate or how to register your child for camps.
