GALESBURG — A family of three with ties to Montgomery and Labette counties died early Monday morning in a house fire near Galesburg.
Galesburg Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Lilburn said firefighters were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. to the area of U.S. 59 and 80th Road after receiving a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed and ultimately destroyed. All three occupants died in the fire, identified as Dillon Evans, his wife, Isabella (Kitterman) Evans, and their 2-year-old son, Easton Lee.
Evans was a Parsons native and Labette County High School graduate. Isabella Evans was from Caney and graduated from Caney Valley High School in 2020.
“This is truly devastating to our small community,” Lilburn said. “And the family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.”
The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
The St. Paul/Mission Township Fire Department, Erie Fire Department, Neosho County Sheriff’s Department, Neosho County EMS and Neosho County Communications assisted with the response.
