A perfect fall afternoon in downtown McPherson Saturday was filled with friends reconnecting and conversations over pots and pots of freshly made chili in every direction.
This year’s, Burnin’ Down Main event boasted thirteen booths of chili cook teams and hundreds of folks on hand to taste and vote for their favorite. Chris Hulsey’ chili was gobbled up and voted Fan Favorite, an award Hulsey took in stride.


Brad Doughman’s Doughboy’s Chili took first place, with Graber’s Ace Hardware second and Troop 133 third. Chris Hulsey’s CJ’s Smoked Kickin’ Chili won Fan Favorite, and the Spirit Award went to Cauldron Queens.
In desserts, Advanced Physical Therapy’s Date Cake was first, followed by Kylee Spearman’s Pumpkin Snickerdoodles and Cauldron Queen’s Zucchini Bread. McPherson Main Street hosted the contest.
Nick Youngkin traveled from Eudora to visit with friends and take in the event. Youngkin told Ad Astra News that hot and spicy chili is not his favorite but he was willing to burn a few taste buds for fun.
