HUTCHINSON, Kan. — On July 27, for the fourth year in a row, there will be a barbecue event called the Bridgebuilder’s BBQ, a joint effort between the NAACP Youth and Hutchinson Police Department.

Heather Jobe, NAACP Youth Advisor said the BBQ was created after the death of George Floyd in response to the turmoil that was seen nationwide between our youth and our Police departments.

“This was a way for us to work on uniting our community and has been a huge success,” Jobe said.

The event will take place at the Homebuilder’s Shelter in Carey Park from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Other groups participating in the event are Hutch in Harmony and the City of Hutchinson.

This event facilitates conversation and interactions between the youth and police officers. There will be free food, inflatables, team-building activities, music, and more.
