The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will host a public open house for proposed improvements to U.S. 50 in Harvey County on Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Sand Creek Event Center at 1601 S. Anderson Rd. in Newton.

This project begins west of Cow Palace Road, extends east to Sand Creek, and includes the overpass over the BNSF rail yard. The existing bridge spans Meridian Road (with interchange), BNSF, and 14th Street.

The public is invited to attend any time between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to view proposed plans, ask questions and leave public comments. No formal presentations will be made.

The project is still in the preliminary design phase, but remains a priority due to bridge replacement needs. The project has not yet been funded for construction, and a timeline for the work has not been determined.

Meeting information will also be available online at ksdot.gov/US50-Meridian at the time of the meeting for review and comment through Dec. 2.

If you need special assistance at the meeting, please contact KDOT’s Division of Communications at 785-296-3585 (Voice) / 711 (Hearing Impaired). Requests should be made at least three days prior to the meeting to provide adequate time for KDOT to schedule accommodation services.
