IOLA, Kan. — Allen Community College will honor military veterans with a special Veterans Day lunch and historical presentation on Wednesday, November 11, as part of the college’s ongoing celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
The event begins at noon in the Stadler Conference Room on the Iola campus and is open to veterans, students, employees and community members. Veterans will receive a free meal featuring fried chicken, pot roast, mashed potatoes, vegetables and desserts.
Allen history instructor Steven Dodson will present a program on Civil War-era military uniforms, exploring their history and significance during one of the nation’s most pivotal periods.
The luncheon is among several Veterans Day activities planned at the college, including military-themed displays, a Missing Man Table, a flag-raising ceremony, a student essay contest and special recognition of veterans during Allen basketball games.
Seating for the luncheon is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to veterans.
