Wamego shut down the Hesston offense in the 2nd half to take down Hesston 42-14 in a matchup of two top-10 ranked teams.
Both teams moved the ball at will during much of the first half, but at 14-14, a Hesston drive fizzled out and a short punt gave Wamego the short field.
Wamego added a touchdown to go up 21-14 headed into halftime, a lead they would never relinquish.
Hesston’s offense was never able to find a rhythm in the second half, and Wamego would ride a player-of-the-game performance from quarterback Logan Fulton to victory.
Fulton would finish the game with six total touchdowns, three through the air and three via the ground game.
Hesston suffered ots first loss and fell to 6-1, with a de facto district championship game next week versus Chapman.
Wamego improves to 5-1 and finishes its regular season next week against Jefferson West
