Council Grove outscored Inman 21-8 in the first quarter and led 29-8 at halftime en route to a 36-21 victory over Inman Friday night at Inman.
Council Grove quarterback Luke Stewart passed for two touchdowns (14 and 30 yards) and ran for two TDs of (10 and 25 yards). Bradley Doornbos returned a fumble 52 yards for another TD.
Inman’s Korbyn McClellan ran for a 5-yard TD and caught a 20-yard TD pass from Malachi Brunk. Brunk added a 6-yard TD run.
Council Grove outgained Inman in total yards 424-338. Stewart passed for 342 yards and Doornbos rushed for 51. Mason Samuels caught 4 passes for 103 yards and Easton Stohs 4 for 58.
Brunk passed for 145 yards and rushed for 30. Braxton Malloy ran for 93 yards and caught 1 pass for 25 more. McClellan ran for 74 yards and caught 3 passes for 47 yards.
Cayden Gaeddert caught 3 passes for 45 yards and Tyler Jerrick 3 for 28.
Brunk led the Inman defense with 11 tackles and one interception.
Inman (5-2), ranked No. 2 in Kansas Class 2A behind Sterling and ahead of Smith Center, Thomas More Prep-Marian, Rossville and McClouth, will host Moundridge next Friday. Inman’s other loss came against to Class 2A’s No. 1 team Sterling (35-2).
Moundridge (4-3) edged Remington 15-14 Friday night at home.
Council Grove (7-0), ranked No. 3 in Kansas Class 2A (behind Silver Lake and Sabetha), No. 24 overall in Kansas (MaxPreps) and No. 4 in the Topeka area rankings, will host Riley County (4-3) next Friday.
Riley County rallied to defeat Southeast of Saline 21-20 Friday night at home.
