A Vietnam veteran and longtime Kansas farmer has left 35-thousand dollars to help control the cat population in McPherson County.

Michael Olson, who died last August at age 78, donated the money to Cat House McPherson to fund spay and neuter surgeries, including its trap-neuter-return program for feral cats.

The organization offers vouchers worth 45 or 55 dollars through six participating veterinary clinics in McPherson and Lindsborg. Each family can receive up to three vouchers a year.

Olson received a Bronze Star for bravery during his year of service in Vietnam and was a lifelong animal lover.
