McPHERSON, Kan. – Already having a successful season as a goal scorer, Yahir Valadez put four into the net on Thursday to help the McPherson boys soccer team to a 7-2 road win at Winfield.
The Bullpups held a 3-0 lead at halftime as Jackson Martin scored the first goal, followed by Valadez and Grayson Broadus, who added his goal just before the break.
Valadez quickly put the game out of reach as he scored two goals in the first 90 seconds and added another later in the second half. Jameson Bowers finished off the scoring for McPherson to put them up 7-0. The Vikings scored two goals late to avoid the shutout.
The Bullpups scored on seven of their nine shots on goal for the night. Goalkeeper Hunter Schroeder registered two saves on the night as well.
“With a 7-0 lead and 20 minutes remaining, I was able to give the majority of our starters a rest while providing several players with valuable varsity experience,” said head coach Chris Adrian. “Overall, it was a strong performance from the boys, and it was great to see the team find its rhythm, create chances and finish them off.”
McPherson improved to 8-4 overall with the victory and will be back at home on Tuesday for Senior Night against Augusta.
In Tuesday night’s JV contest, McPherson defeated Winfield 4-0 with goals from Aiden Pattison, Quade Broadus, Malachi Griggs and Pedro Francisco.
