McPherson Rolls to 11-1 Victory, Van Wyck Nets Four Goals

Lindsborg, Kansas – The McPherson Bulldogs Men’s Soccer team rolled to a 11-1 win in Lindsborg over Bethany College. Nathan Van Wyck had four of McPherson’s 11 goals in the match. The Bulldogs are now 21-1-0 all-time against the Swedes, including 20 wins in a row.

How it Happened
The Swedes scored first, netting their lone goal in the 16th minute off a penalty kick. McPherson tied things up just a few minutes later, with Tijs Stumphius finding the back of the net with assists from Sijmen Van Der Zee and Nathan Van Wyck in the 22nd minute. The Bulldogs scored back-to-back goals in the 24th and 25th minutes, with Van Der Zee and Van Wyck each scoring goals of their own. Van Der Zee scored off a corner kick taken by David Garcia. Van Wyck scored his second goal of the night in the 31st minute off a pass from Ronald Lozano. Van Wyck scored his third goal in a row in the 37th minute. Elliot Powrie found the back of the net from a pass by Alexander Escobedo in the 40th minute to make the score 6-1 going into halftime.

Lozano opened the second half for the Bulldogs with a score in the 57th minute. Stumphius netted his second goal of the match in the 62nd minute to take an 8-1 advantage. In the 70th minute, Van Wyck scored his fourth goal with an assist from Van Der Zee. Elod Nadasdi found the back of the net in the 86th minute with assists from Santiago Rendon and Alexander Escobedo. McPherson’s last goal of the night was scored by Andres Mora Castillo in the 88th minute.

The Bulldogs racked up 36 shots with 16 on goal, while the Swedes had three shots with only one on frame.
