LONGTON, Kan. — Authorities have identified a man found dead Tuesday afternoon on Elk Valley USD 283 school property as Jason Barrager, 50, of Independence.
School personnel discovered Barrager around 2 p.m. Sept. 22 and immediately notified local law enforcement. The Elk County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation about 30 minutes later. KBI agents and its Crime Scene Response Team responded to Longton.
Investigators determined Barrager was alone on school property around 3 a.m. and did not leave the area. The KBI said he had no obvious injuries, and an autopsy will be performed.
Authorities said there are currently no indications of foul play and no evidence suggesting students or the public are at risk in connection with the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
