CHARLOTTE, NC – After earning Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Division 1 Volleyball Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, Hutchinson Community College sophomore Giovanna Monteiro and Colby Community College sophomore Isadora Carrareto have swept the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 Volleyball National Player of the Week awards.
Monteiro and Carrareto become the 65th and 66th KJCCC volleyball players since 2017 to earn national accolades, with Monteiro becoming the fifth Blue Dragon to earn national honors. Monteiro, meanwhile, is the seventh different Trojan to be recognized by the NJCAA with a weekly award. Of the 66 NJCAA Volleyball Player of the Week awards earned by KJCCC players, 33 have been earned by players at the NJCAA Division 1 level. The last Hutchinson player to earn national honors prior to Monteiro was Clara Oliveiro during week nine of the 2025 season (October 21-28, 2025), while Colby’s last award winner prior to Carrareto was Celia Mbaya during week 10 of the 2023 season (October 25-31, 2023).
Giovanna Monteiro (Hutchinson) – NJCAA D1 Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Freshman Giovanna Monteiro averaged 4.08 kills and hit .333 as the surging Blue Dragons went 2-1 last week, earning a road victory over number-10 ranked Dodge City. Over 13 sets, Monteiro had 53 total kills and had three double-doubles to lead the Blue Dragons. In a five-set loss to number eight-ranked Colby, Monteiro had 16 kills and 10 digs. In a five-set road win two days later against number 10-ranked Conquistadors, Monteiro had 23 kills and a career-high 24 digs. Monteiro completed the week with 14 kills and 11 digs in a sweep over Butler and is currently second in the KJCCC with an average of 4.04 kills per set.
Isadora Carrareto (Colby) – NJCAA D1 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Carrareto continued her strong play on the defensive end for the number eight-ranked Colby volleyball team last week, averaging 1.18 blocks per set as the Trojans extended their winning streak to 10 straight matches with a 3-0 week. In a five-set win to start the week at Hutchinson, Carrareto had five total blocks and three digs on the defensive end before adding seven blocks in a three-set sweep of Seward County at home. Carrareto ended the week with one more block in a straight-sets win over Cloud County and now has 43 total blocks in 10 matches for Colby.
