CHARLOTTE, NC – Following a trend that extended to a fourth consecutive week, reigning Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week and Allen Community College freshman Damian Spurrier has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Becoming the first Allen men’s cross country runner to earn NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week accolades, Spurrier earns the 31st KJCCC men’s cross country runner to earn the NJCAA honors since the NJCAA started awarding National Runner of the Week in 2019. Every KJCCC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week in 2026 has gone on to win national honors, with Hutchinson’s Letsepo Prince Madume, Butler’s Abdirisak Saidgurhan, and Dodge City’s Josue Vega each picking up accolades during the first three weeks of the 2026 season.
Damian Spurrier (Allen) – NJCAA D1 Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Spurrier was the highest-finishing KJCCC athlete at the 2026 Missouri Southern Stampede, finishing 62nd out of 309 runners in a field loaded with NCAA Division 1, NCAA Division 2, NAIA, and NJCAA schools. The freshman finished with a time of 26:09.80 in his first 8,000-meter race of his collegiate career.
