HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Local members of P.E.O. will participate in Walk Today for Women Tomorrow on Saturday, September 26, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Avenue A Park in Hutchinson.
The walk is part of a P.E.O. initiative celebrating the organization’s mission to motivate, educate and celebrate women. Participants will walk from Avenue A Park to Clayworks, where they will gather for coffee and fellowship.
Founded in 1869 by seven young women at Iowa Wesleyan College, P.E.O. has grown into an international sisterhood with a longstanding commitment to helping women achieve their educational goals.
Through its philanthropic projects, P.E.O. provides scholarships, grants, awards and educational loans to women at many stages of their education-from graduating high school seniors to women returning to school and those pursuing doctoral degrees. P.E.O. also provides scholarships for international women pursuing graduate study in the United States and Canada and has owned and supported Cottey College, a women’s college in Nevada, Missouri, since 1927.
Since its founding, P.E.O. has provided approximately $490 million in educational assistance to more than 132,000 women.
The Walk Today for Women Tomorrow is an opportunity for local P.E.O. members to celebrate that legacy while strengthening the friendship and sisterhood at the heart of the organization.
