STERLING, Kan. – Sterling College cross country hosted their first home cross country meet since 2017 with the 1st Annual Warrior Invitational on Friday, Sept. 18. Despite the heat, the men and women both had impressive showings, both finishing second in the team scores. The women were led by Claire Miller who finished third in the field with a time of 23:04.86 in the 5K while freshman Aaron Fagan won the men’s 8K with a time of 28:48.77.
The women’s team finished second, only seven points away from Tabor who won the meet. Claire Miller led the women with a time of 23:04.86 in the 5K to finish third while Janie Perico finished fifth, running a 25:09.81. Sheridan Nguyen was right behind her in sixth with a time of 25:35.75.
Rounding out the field for the women were Lacie Penner and Audrey Blake, who finished ninth and 10th with times of 27:31.34 and 28:02.61, respectively.
The men finished second, only nine points away from Tabor who won the meet. Aaron Fagan led all runners, winning the men’s 8K with a time of 28:48.77 with Camryn Gantt right behind him in second with a time of 28:59.70.
Riley Rodgers and Matthew Robinson were the third and fourth runners for the Warriors with times of 32:06.44 and 32:09.93 to finish ninth and 11th, respectively. Finishing out the points in the fifth position was Ethan Snider who placed 14th with a time of 33:40.10.
Also competing for the Warriors were Ian Chrisler, Wesley Brantley, Will Iler and James Bottoms. Chrisler, Brantley and Iler finished 17th, 18th and 19th with times of 35:38.88, 35:49.50 and 35:50.37, respectively. Bottoms was just one place off of the pack, running a time of 36:41.99 to place 21st.
Up next, the Warriors will travel to Hays, Kan. to compete at the Fort Hays Tiger Open on Saturday, Oct. 10.
