The Haven High School boys cross country team placed first and the Pretty Prairie girls second in the varsity 5K competition at the St. John Invitational Thursday at St. John High School.
The Haven varsity boys placed first with 60 points, followed by Medicine Lodge 69, Nickerson 75, Pratt 77, Spearville 89, Ellinwood 90, St. John-Hudson 95, Lyons 96, Sterling 116, Central Plains 125 and Pretty Prairie 146.
The Ellsworth varsity girls placed first with 31 points, followed by Pretty Prairie 42, Ness City 49, Pratt 52, Ellinwood 52, Sterling 101 and Hodgeman County 126.
In the varsity boys 5K race, Haven’s Isaiah Doherty placed second with a time of 17 minutes, 48.48 seconds. Spearville’s Evan Martinez placed first with a time of 17:29.48.
Lyons’ Aaron Villasenor placed seventh, 18:39.94; Ellinwood’s Ryan Pohlman eighth, 18:53.28; and Nickerson’s Aiden Brinkley, ninth, 19:01.94.
Sterling’s William Wilson placed 13th with a time of 19:29.28. Burrton’s Isaac Jones placed 17th in 19:44.23.
Ellsworth’s Molly Ehrlich placed first in the varsity girls 5K race with a time of 21:02.15.
Ellinwood’s Eleanor Joiner and Pretty Prairie’s Lauren Detter placed second and third with times of 21:16.33 and 21:21.72.
Pretty Prairie’s Amity White placed sixth with a time of 22:03.02.
In the boys 1-mile race, Sterling’s Boston Wilkie placed eighth (6:13.75) and Judah Prichard ninth (6:13.85).
