SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Sterling College Cross Country had a record-breaking evening at the Queen City After Dark meet hosted by Evangel University on Friday, Sept. 11 as Camryn Gantt and Aaron Fagan both broke the school record in the 6K with a time of 19:51 with Grantt endging just ahead to claim the title. The previous record was help by Max Dutton, set in 2019, with a time of 20:59.9.
Gantt finished 64th while Fagan was right behind him at 66th in what proved to be a talent-packed meet with nearly 200 runners on the men’s side and 15 teams in attendance. Riley Rogers was Sterling’s second runner to cross the finish line with a time of 21:30 to place 128th. Finishing 134th and 145th were Ethan Snider and Ian Chrisler with times of 21:40 and 22:06, respectively.
The Warrior’s fifth runner was Matthew Robinson who crossed the finish line at 23:03 to place 159th. Rounding out the field for Sterling was Will Iler and James Bottoms running times of 23:23 and 25:24 to place 163rd and 171st, respectively.
For the women, Claire Miller led the charge in the 5K finishing 71st with a time of 20:41. Lydia Nelson was the Lady Warrior’s second runner across the finish line with a time of 22:06 to finish 106th.
Coming in at 121st and 123rd were Malinah Nunnaley and Janie Perico who ran times of 23:25 and 23:38, respectively. While Lacie Penner was the fifth runner for the Lady Warriors, running a time of 24:25 and placing 129th. Rounding out the field was Audrey Balke who finished 137th with a time of 26:34.
The Warriors will be back in action in at the Warrior Invitational hosted by Sterling College on Friday, Sept. 18 at the Sterling Country Club. This marks the first home cross country meet for the Warriors since 2017. The women’s race will start at 6:15 p.m. with the men’s race to follow at 6:45 p.m.
