Sterling, Kan. – The Tiger Women’s Soccer team took on Sterling College this past Saturday and suffered a narrow 2-1 loss, but not without vast improvement from their previous matches.
The Tigers struck first in the match as Chloe Clevenger scored her first goal of the season in the 14th minute. The team possessed the ball much better than in previous matches and delivered 21 shots on goal, which is by far a season high.
Unfortunately for the Tigers the Clevenger goal early on would be the lone shot of those 21 to find the back of the net as Sterling banked on strong goalkeeper play.
Sterling was also given two penalty shots in the 2nd half in the 39th and 75th minutes and was able to capitalize on both to edge out the Tigers.
Its an unfortunate outcome for the Tigers as a couple of mistakes in their own box would ultimately be the difference, but the performance is very much still something to build on. The Tigers had been shutout in three consecutive matches before hand and were able to generate many scoring chances and maintain possession significantly better.
The Tigers fall to 0-5 on the season and will take on Hesston College at home on Wednesday at 5:00pm. The match will be streamed on the SAC Sports Network and Urban Edge Network.
