The Goessel High School Bluebirds captured the Goessel Invitational volleyball tournament championship Saturday.
The Bluebirds defeated the Moundridge Wildcats 25-14, 25-22 in the championship match and posted a 5-0 record.
In Pool A play, Goessel defeated Hutchinson Central Christian, South Haven and Sedgwick. In the semifinals, Goessel defeated Berean Academy.
The Moundridge High School volleyball team went 4-1 in the tournament and improved its overall record to 10-2.
The Wildcats beat Canton-Galva, Fairfield, Berean and Sedgwick before losing to Goessel in the finals.
Sedgwick defeated Berean Academy in the third-place match and posted a 3-2 record in the tournament.
Central Christian beat Canton-Galva in the fifth-place match and Fairfield defeated South Haven in the seventh-place match.
In other volleyball tournament action Saturday:
• The Ellinwood High School volleyball team continued its dominance by winning the Ellsworth tournament for the sixth year in a row.
The Eagles improve to 10-0 on the season and extended their win streak to 57 straight matches dating back to the start of last season.
Ellinwood, the defending Kansas Class 2A state champions, is ranked No. 1 in 2A this season.
Ellinwood senior libero Bennett Jacobs, a four-year starter for the Eagles, recorded her 1,000th career dig.
• Cheney went 5-0 Saturday to bring home the Haven Coleman Classic Championship.
Cheney senior Kenadi Thome, who reached a major career milestone by recording her 1,000th career dig.
Cheney volleyball coach Sara Walkup also celebrated her birthday.
Garden Plain placed second in the Coleman Classic and improved to 6-3.
• The Cheney junior varsity volleyball team placed first at the Conway Springs Tournament Saturday and improved to 9-0.
• Little River, the defending Class 1A Division I state champions, captured the 2026 Centre High School volleyball tournament championship Saturday at Lost Springs.
• The Marion High School volleyball team placed third in the 2026 Centre High School volleyball tournament. Marion defeated Centre, 828 Gladiators and Rural Vista and lost to Little River and the Wichita Warriors.
• The Ell-Salina High School volleyball team won the Solomon Invitational Saturday with a 5-0 record.
• The Elyria Christian volleyball team placed fifth at the Solomon Invitational with a 2-2 record.
• The Beloit Trojans posted a 5-0 record and did not drop a set on their way to the Southeast of Saline tournament championship Saturday in Gypsum.
Beloit picked up wins over Abilene, Salina South, Smoky Valley and Southeast of Saline before taking down Towanda-Circle in the championship match to bring home the title.
• The Hays-Thomas More-Marian High School volleyball team captured first place at the Wakeeney-Trego Invitational Saturday.
