The Hutchinson Central Christian Cougar football team shut out Fairfield 46-0 Friday night at the CCS field and improved to 2-0.
The victorious Cougars rolled up 246 yards rushing.
Sophomore quarterback Adam Eigsti scored 1 touchdown, completed 5-of-7 passes with 1 interception for 28 yards and ran for 12 yards.
Senior Calvin Barnett scored 3 touchdowns and rushed for 146 yards on 14 carries and caught 2 passes for 12 yards. Barnett also added 26 yards in punt returns.
Senior Karson Sullivan gained 68 yards on 9 carries and scored 1 TD.
Sophomore Zeke Fletchall added 1 carry for 9 yards. Junior Tyler Reed caught 2 passes for 13 yards.
Cael Kooiman led the Cougars’ defense with 10 tackles. Barnett added 7 tackles and a fumble recovery. Sullivan made 6 stops, Brayden Wallace 5 and Trey Miller 5. The Cougars had 11 tackles for loss, including 2 quarterback sacks.
Central Christian will host Cunningham (2-0) next Friday. Cunningham defeated Norwich 28-0 in Week 2. Fairfield (0-2) plays at Argonia/Attica (1-1), which defeated Pretty Prairie 64-0 in Week 2.
