Salina, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes football team took a short trip up I-135 to Salina, Kan. to take on their biggest rival, the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes.
The contest started off well for Bethany as they forced an opening drive fumble for the second time in as many games. The lone offensive highlight for the Swedes was a swing pass from Alex Mustain to Blayne Wilson resulting in a 57-yard touchdown to put Bethany on the board in the fourth quarter. In the end, the Swedes would fall 76-6.
The Swedes would deploy four quarterbacks in the contest. Alex Mustain would have the greatest impact with 123 yards passing and a touchdown. Blayne Willson racked up 73 receiving yards, 69 kick return yards, and eight rushing yards for a total of 150 all-purpose yards.
Destine Deans would tally a game-high 12 tackles (eight solo) and a fumble recovery on the opening possession of the game. Santhonax Labonte made three solo tackles including two for loss.
The Swedes’ offense continued to struggle totaling only 169 yards to average 2.5 yards per play. Three of the four quarterbacks that played threw at least one interception. The defense allowed 566 yards of offense.
