The Hoisington Cardinals won their season- and home-opening football game Friday night with a 26-8 victory over Hillsboro.
Hoisington led 6-0 at halftime and 20-0 entering the fourth quarter. The Cardinals added another touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Brody Pfannenstiel scored on a 2-yard touchdown run, Preston Merlau scored on a 6-yard TD run and Drake Martin added a 44-yard TD run. Logan Cossel caught a 2-point conversion pass from Kolter Hahn.
Hillsboro quarterback Zayne Haslett connected with Brayson Amstutz for a 5-yard touchdown pass and a 2-point conversion pass to cut Hoisington’s lead to 20-8 with 10:10 left in the game.
Hahn tacked on a 8-yard run for the 26-8 final score.
Hoisington will play at Hesston next Friday and Hillsboro will host Larned.
