Ad Astra Radio is honored to share that the Kansas Association of Broadcasters has selected Lucky Kidd to be the recipient (posthumously) of the 2026 Sonny Slater Award for Service to Station and Community.
Lucky devoted so much time and care to his communities in his 35+ years of broadcasting. We are extremely proud of this award, and although it is bittersweet that he won’t be there to receive it himself, we know it is a huge honor to Lucky’s memory and legacy.
The Sonny Slater Award, was established in 1992 to honor Sonny Slater and recognize a Kansas broadcaster, who is not an owner or general manager, for long-term service to their station and community. The award will be presented at the Hall of Fame Banquet Sunday, October 18.
Ad Astra Radio will also be presented the following Station Awards at the KAB Convention on Monday, October, 19:
- Hutchinson & Larned News Director Kaitlyn Mauro received 1st Place in the Public Affairs Program for her entry on the Hutchinson Zoo’s Nights Before Christmas.
- Brenna Eller, Aaron Napier and staff took 1st Place in the Station Website category for adastraradio.com.
- KMCP Staff took 2nd Place in the Excellence in Multimedia/Digital Storytelling category for coverage of All Schools Day.
