Buhler High School junior Sofia Spies, the Kansas Class 4A state singles runner-up during her freshman and sophomore seasons, placed first at No. 1 singles at the Hesston Invitational girls tennis tournament on Thursday.
The Crusader varsity girls tennis team, which placed fifth in the Kansas Class 4A state team standings in 2025, placed third out of eight teams competing at the Hesston meet.
McPherson placed first with 29 points, followed by Hesston with 21, Buhler 19, Maize South 12, Smoky Valley 11, Wichita Collegiate 10, Abilene 9 and Wichita Trinity Academy 5.
Buhler’s Sydney Fluck finished fourth at No. 2 singles. Emily Allen and Ella Gillespie finished fourth at No. 1 doubles. Addy Tech and Brailey McIntire placed sixth at No. 2 doubles.
Buhler’s varsity squad will compete at the Salina Central Duals at 8 a.m. Saturday and the Wellington Invitational at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Buhler junior varsity competes at the McPherson JV Invitational at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
