An 80-year-old Lebo woman died following a vehicle-semi crash Friday evening, Aug. 28, on Interstate 35 in Coffey County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 8:32 p.m. when a 2015 Toyota Highlander traveling southbound was in the northbound lanes of I-35. The Toyota struck a northbound 2024 Freightliner semi tractor head-on before coming to rest in the northbound lanes.
The semi came to rest on its side, blocking both southbound lanes. KHP identified the Toyota driver as Anita Morgan, 80, of Lebo, who was wearing a safety restraint and died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The semi driver, Wilfred Orenge, 42, of New Hope, Minnesota, was also wearing a safety restraint and reported no apparent injuries.
