The Buhler High School Crusader girls tennis team opened the 2026 fall season by placing fifth at the 12-team Wichita Collegiate Classic on Saturday.
Matches took place on the tennis courts at Wichita Collegiate, Kapaun-Mount Carmel and Andover Central high schools.
Other schools competing were Wichita Bishop Carroll, Topeka Hayden, Independence, Maize South, St. Thomas Aquinas, Wichita Trinity Academy and Washburn Rural.
In the 24-player singles draw, Buhler’s Sofia Spies placed second and Addy Tech placed 12th.
In the 24-player doubles draw, Buhler’s Emily Allen and Ella Gillespie placed 11th. Buhler’s Sydney Fluck and McKenna Sponsel finished 23rd.
Buhler’s varsity team will compete in the Hesston tournament Thursday and the junior varsity competes in the Maize South JV Tournament. Both meets start at 3 p.m.
The Crusader varsity competes at the Salina Central Duals at 8 a.m. Saturday and the Wellington Varsity Invitational at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
The JV squad competes at the McPherson JV Invitational at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
