GARNETT, Kan. — Anderson County is set to launch Everbridge as its official mass notification and emergency alert system on August 14, 2026. The new platform will serve as the county’s primary tool for delivering critical emergency communications to residents, businesses, and visitors throughout Anderson County, replacing any prior notification system previously in use.
ABOUT THE EVERBRIDGE PLATFORM
Everbridge is a nationally trusted emergency communications platform used by counties, municipalities, and state agencies across the United States. The system enables emergency management personnel to rapidly send life-safety information and community notifications through multiple channels simultaneously — including phone calls, text messages, email, and mobile app push notifications. Whether residents are at home, at work, or on the go, Everbridge is designed to reach them through whatever device or communication method they rely on most.
WHY ANDERSON COUNTY IS MAKING THE SWITCH
Anderson County Emergency Management is upgrading its communications infrastructure to provide residents and businesses with faster, more reliable, and more flexible emergency alerting capabilities. Everbridge replaces CodeRed, the county’s previous mass notification system, which went offline in November 2025. Since that time, Anderson County has not had a dedicated, locally managed mass notification system — a gap that has left residents and businesses without a reliable, centralized way to receive emergency alerts and community-wide communications. It is important to note that during this period, residents have not been without all emergency alerting resources: Anderson County has continued to have access to the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) through state and federal resources, which has provided a baseline level of emergency alerting capability. Everbridge will now bring a dedicated, locally managed notification system back to the community — one that gives county emergency managers direct control over messaging, delivery channels, and alert customization. Anderson County is also partnering with city and county officials across the area to bring multiple alerting options to the public, ensuring a coordinated, community-wide approach to emergency communications that reaches residents wherever they are. Everbridge not only restores local notification capability but significantly upgrades it, offering more delivery channels, greater customization, and the modern infrastructure needed to keep pace with today’s emergency communication demands. As severe weather, public safety incidents, and other emergencies require rapid community-wide communication, Everbridge gives county emergency managers the tools to reach the entire Anderson County community simultaneously — ensuring that no household or business is left without critical, potentially life-saving information when it matters most.
TYPES OF ALERTS RESIDENTS WILL RECEIVE
Through Everbridge, Anderson County Emergency Management and partnering agencies will be able to deliver the following types of notifications:
- Emergency Alerts — Urgent notifications for active threats to life or property requiring immediate public awareness or action.
- Community Notifications — General announcements and updates relevant to the Anderson County community.
- Road Closures — Timely notices of road and bridge closures affecting travel in the county.
- Public Safety Information — Important advisories from law enforcement, emergency services, or county officials.
- National Weather Service Warnings — Including Tornado Warnings, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, Flash Flood Warnings, and additional weather-related alerts issued for Anderson County.
- Optional Community Interest Groups — Residents may voluntarily opt in to supplemental notification categories such as burn ban alerts, local government updates, and community event announcements. Participation in these optional groups is entirely voluntary and fully customizable by each registrant.
HOW TO SIGN UP — REGISTRATION IS FREE
Registration in the Everbridge Member Portal is completely free and open to all Anderson County residents and businesses. Anderson County Emergency Management Director strongly encourages every household and business to start registering August 14, 2026, they will start receiving alerts first day they sign up.
Registrants can add multiple phone numbers, email addresses, and physical locations — such as a home address, business, school, or other frequently visited location — allowing Everbridge to deliver geographically targeted alerts relevant to wherever registrants live, work, or spend time.
The system also allows users to customize their notification giving residents control over how they are contacted.
