IOLA — Thrive Allen County has received a $467,764 grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to help prevent veteran suicide in Allen County and surrounding areas.
The funding comes through VA’s Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program, which supports community organizations using nonclinical services, peer support and other approaches to reach eligible veterans. The program emphasizes reaching veterans who are not connected with VA services in underserved areas.
Jessica Thompson, Thrive’s chief strategy and development officer, said suicide prevention efforts can build a compassionate support network, offering hope and helping people recognize they are not alone as they work toward recovery.
The grant program honors Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox, an Army sniper instructor remembered for his kindness and generosity who died by suicide in 2020 at age 25. More information about the program is available at MentalHealth.VA.gov/ssgfox-grants.
