City of Hutchinson Responding to Multiple Water Main Breaks

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – [July 27, 2026]- City of Hutchinson Utility crews are responding to three water main breaks that are impacting traffic and water service in multiple areas of the city.

These are the City’s initial reports. Crews are actively assessing each location, and information will be updated as repairs progress.

Traffic Impacts

The following roadway closures are currently in effect:

  • East 17th Avenue: Eastbound traffic is closed from Plum Street to Elm Street due to a water main break.
  • 9th Avenue: Closed between Plum Street and Elm Street due to a water main break.
  • 8th Avenue & Poplar Street: The immediate area remains closed due to a downed tree blocking the roadway.

Residents are asked to avoid these areas and use alternate routes while crews complete repairs.

Water Service Impacts

The following areas are currently without water service:

Water Main Break #1 – East 17th Avenue

  • Residents from Plum Street to Elm Street

Water Main Break #2 – 2nd Avenue & George Street

  • Residents from Waldron Street to George Street
  • Residents on George Street from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue

Water Main Break #3 – 9th Avenue

  • Residents on 9th Avenue from Plum Street to Maple Street

Water service has been restored to residents effected by Sunday’s water main break. At this time, the initial estimated restoration time for water service is approximately 4:00 p.m. Actual restoration times may vary depending on conditions encountered during repairs.

The City appreciates the public’s patience as utility crews work to safely restore water service and reopen affected roadways. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
