A late Sunday night traffic stop in Harvey County led to the arrests of three suspects in a Kansas City, Kansas Homicide
Newton Police and the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office had been notified just after 11 PM Sunday a Flock camera reader in Chase County had detected a vehicle involved in that case and was headed towards Newton on US 50.
A Harvey County deputy locate the vehicle as it entered the county and unsuccessfully attempted to make a traffic stop. At this point Newton police blocked the exit ramps off of 50 and onto I-135 so the suspects could not come into town. Spike strips were deployed on the interstate, disabling the vehicle and allowing the suspects to be taken into custody.
Monday police and deputies searched the area of the vehicle stop and located guns and ammunition in the ditch and shoulder of the interstate which it’s believed the suspects threw out of the vehicle before the chase ended and thought to be used in the homicide.
The suspects, Aaron Johnson, Mark Elloitt Nash Jr., and Marquel McGee, all 18 and from Kansas City Kansas, were booked into the Harvey County Detention Center pending transfer to Wyandotte County to face first degree murder charges,
As reported by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, the suspects were wanted in connection with the shooting of 64-year-old James Dodds on Sunday evening. The case remains under investigation by the KCKPD Major Case Unit.
