Garnett City Commissioners Tuesday night asked an ordinance be drafted to establish a no parking zone in the 500 block of East 4th in front of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Catholic School.
Residents in the area have voiced concerns about congestion in that block around times of mass, which are causing difficulty for residents on the north side of the street in getting into and out of their driveways and essentially makes that block of 4th a one lane street. This will not impact the angle parking on the south side of 4th.
Commissioners were informed a new pump has been ordered for the city’s swimming pool. City Manager Travis Wilson said the existing pump is “struggling,” and could fail at any time. There’s about a week lead time to get a pump delivered. A pump failure at the Yates Center Pool delayed its opening this week. Wilson told Commissioners this pump can be used with the new pool that’s in the works. Commissioners and staff will be traveling to Stockton next week to look at their new pool and get some ideas for the new Garnett pool
The Commission approved the plans for a building expansion at 210 South Catalpa Street to accommodate additional office space. The Planning and Zoning Board had no issues with his. Commissioners approved Transient Guest Tax event grants for the Anderson County Fair, Anderson County Flywheelers, Cornstock, and Westphalia Days. It also approved the first marketing grant since this was approved last year, for Mundell’s Pumpkin Patch, which in the past they have denied TGT applications for on grounds it is a commercial business.
It also approved the closing of Walnut Street by First Christian Church next week in connection with their Vacation Bible School and heard an update on water plant requests for proposals.
