FREDONIA, Kan. — The City of Fredonia is asking all water customers to voluntarily conserve water over the next 24 to 48 hours following multiple breaks on large-diameter water distribution lines.
The city’s Water Department worked through the night to repair the breaks, but the loss of water has caused the South Mound water storage tank to drop below its normal capacity. Residents are being asked to limit or eliminate nonessential water use while the tank recovers.
Conservation measures include refraining from watering lawns, shrubs and trees, as well as avoiding washing vehicles or other large items. Residents are also encouraged to postpone running dishwashers and washing machines unless they have full loads.
The city said it is actively monitoring water storage levels and working to restore the tank’s volume as quickly and safely as possible. Additional updates will be provided as conditions return to normal.
