The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic boys track team placed second at the Kansas Class 2A regional Friday at Inman.
Smith Center won the boys regional track title with 127 points, followed by Hutchinson Trinity with 109.33 points.
Inman placed third with 66 points, followed by Moundridge 63, Plainville 51, Wakeeney-Trego Community 45, Sterling 34, Hays-Thomas More Prep-Marian 26.33, Hoxie 25, Bennington 18, Oakley 16, Hillsboro 10, Salina Sacred Heart 9, Ellinwood 8, Ell-Saline 3 and Rawlins County 1.33.
Hoxie won the girls regional title with 94 points, followed by Inman with 68.5 and Smith Center with 50.
Ellinwood and Moundridge tied for fourth place with 50 points, followed by Salina Sacred Heart 41, Hillsboro 41, Bennington 40, Oakley 38, Rawlins County 32, Sterling 24.5, Wakeeney-Trego Community 21 and Hays-Thomas More Prep-Marian 12.
The top three finishers in each event automatically qualified for the Class 2A state meet. Additional at-large qualifiers will be determined by the next six best performances statewide from regional competition.
Hutchinson Trinity swept the the boys relay races, winning the 4×100 in 43.38 seconds, the 4×400 in 3:28.43 and the 4×800 in 8:24.49.
The Celtics’ Kaid McElgunn took first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.84 seconds. Alex Guajardo placed third in the 400 (51.49) and sixth in the 200 (23.2).
Trinity Catholic’s Ambrose Pennycuff placed second in the 800 (2:02.44), with teammate Cameron Kiser third (2:02.69). Jacob Lindstrom placed second in the 3,200 (10:12.24), John Lindstrom was fourth in the 1,600 (4:35.59) and fourth in the 3,200 (10:18.81).
Isaac Hammersmith placed third in the boys long jump (20-8), fourth in the high jump (6-0) and fourth in the triple jump (43-8)).
Inman’s Tyler Martisko won the 800 (1:59.31) and 1600 (4:31.46). Samuel Brensing placed third in the 110 hurdles (15.18) and Bo O’Neill finished second in the discus (161-9). Malachi Brunk was second in the javelin (178-7) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (41.94).
Sterling’s Zane Farney won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.83 seconds. He also was second in the 300 hurdles (39.54).
Moundridge’s Heath Churchill won the high jump (6-8) and teammate Brayden Elmore won the pole vault (12-0).
Smith Center’s Brant Wilson won the discus (162-90) and javelin (180-5). Cole McKelvey won the 400 (50.3) and Carson McKelvey won the 300 hurdles (39.26).
Plainville’s Riley Rogers won the long jump (21-6.25) and teammate Rucker Rudman placed first in the triple jump (45-7).
TMP’s Jackson Gillespie won the 200 (22.36) and Hoxie’s Michael Hafner won the 3200 (10:09.08).
In the girls competition, Inman won the 4×100 relay (49.99) and 4×400 relay (4:06.12).
Double winners were Sterling’s Julia Kilgore, 200 (25.37) and 400 (57.94); Ellinwood’s Reagan Wirtz, 100 (12.16) and long jump (18-9.5); Smith Center’s Madison Howland, 1600 (5:10.55) and 3200 (11:58.08); and Hoxie’s Camryn Gourley, 100 hurdles (14.43) and 300 hurdles (46.16).
Other regional champions were Salina Sacred Heart’s Emmy Lee, 800 (2:17.77); Salina Sacred Heart, 4×800 relay (10:05.81); Hillsboro’s Emily Gilkey, high jump (5-2); TMP’s Piper Simpson, pole vault (11-1); Oakley’s Alexa Weiser, triple jump (37-0); and Plainville’s Caydance Carter, discus (129-5).
Inman’s Lily Heflin placed second in the 800 (2:18.02). Brooklyn Black placed second in the 300 hurdles (47.4) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.59). Olivia Brunk placed third in the 100 (12.43).
