Nickerson High School freshman Bella Brinkley updated the Panthers’ track leader board after breaking the all-time triple jump record at the Central Kansas League meet on May 14 with a jump of 36 feet, 1.25 inches.

The previous record of 35-9 was set in 2002 by Krista Harmon.

Brinkley’s new record is listed just below Delaney Childs’ name on the leader board. Childs broke the school javelin record with a mark of 134 feet, 1 inch, at the James Thomas Invitational on May 1 at Tabor College in Hillsboro.

Brinkley, Childs and members of the Nickerson girls and boys track teams will compete at the Kansas Class 3A regional Friday at Cheney.

Field events start at 2 p.m. and preliminaries begin at 3:30 p.m. Finals will begin 30 minutes after the last heat of the boys 200-meter dash preliminaries.

Other schools competing are Chaparral, Cheney, Cimarron, Garden Plain, Halstead, Haven, Hesston, Holcomb, Kinssley, Lakin, Larned, Lyons, Southwestern Heights, Wichita Collegiate and Wichita Trinity Academy.

Beloit, Fredonia and Osage City also are hosting 3A regional track meets on Friday.
