Dragons Finish 4th at NJCAA, Hatzenbuehler, Duquaine are All-Americans

NEWTON – The Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team shot its best round of the 2026 NJCAA Division I Men’s National Championship on Friday and secured the sixth Top 5 team finish in program history.

The Blue Dragons carded a 3-over 291 on Friday at Sand Creek Station and finished fourth with a team score of 1,185. Hutchinson has now finished in the national Top 10 for the sixth-straight season and for the 13th time in program history. This is the second-straight season the Blue Dragons placed fourth at the national championship.

Individually, freshman Grant Hatzenbuehler placed third to earn first-team NJCAA All-America honors. He is the eighth Blue Dragon to earn first-team NJCAA All-America honors.

Freshman Hugo Duquaine tied for seventh to earn NJCAA second-team All-America honors.

Hatzenbuehler and Duquaine are the 19th and 20th Blue Dragon NJCAA All-Americans, the 18th and 19th led by Hutchinson head coach Chris Young, who won the 2026 NJCAA Championship Sportsmanship Award on Friday.

The Blue Dragons finished 13 strokes off the pace of team champion McLennan, who needed a birdie from its final player on the course on the 72nd hole – individual national champion Abe Bignell – to win the team national championship by one stroke. McLennan shot 286 on Friday to finish at 1,172. Runner-up Indian Hills posted a 291 on Friday and finished with 1,173. Odessa was third at 1,180.

Hatzenbuehler got off to a good start with birdies on Nos. 1, 4 and 7 and then closed his final round with 11-straight pars to finish at 2-over 70 and post a Championship total of 288. He had only one bogey in his final round. Hatzenbuehler’s first-team All-America award marks the third-straight season the Blue Dragons have had a player finish on the first team, the longest streak in program history.

Duquaine posted his first under-par round of the championship on Friday with a 2-under 70. He had four birdies and two bogeys on Friday to finish the Championship at 5-over 293.

Sophomore Corey Scullion closed the tournament with a 77 and finished tied for 23rd with a 301.

Sophomore Jack Northgraves tied for 32nd at 303 after a 72 on Friday.

Freshman Joe Austin was subbed into the line up for Friday’s round and finished with a 79.
