Bieker & Keller Win 3-2-1A Regional Tennis; Qualify for State for Smoky Valley

LINDSBORG, Kan. – Smoky Valley doubles players Jack Bieker and Pierce Keller are headed to the 3-2-1A State Tennis Tournament after winning the regional championship on their home courts on Saturday.  The Viking pair was dominant on their way to the finals where they battled out a tough win to take the championship.

Bieker and Keller opened the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Drew Davis and Guage Weder of Ellsworth and then picked up a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Ty Hammeke and Ethan Schloctermeier of Ellinwood in the quarterfinals.  In the semis, they won 6-2, 6-1 over Richard Hayes and Scott Lamatsch from Central Plains.  That set up a championship match with Peyton Dody and Alden Metro from Central Plains.  After battling through a 7-6 win in the first set, taking the tiebreaker 7-4, Bieker and Keller took the second set 6-3 to win the title.

Next up is the 3-2-1A State Tournament at Harmon Park Tennis Complex in Prairie Village this coming Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16.
