Erie City Clerk Terminated After Theft Allegations, Complaint Filed

Erie City Clerk Jessica Altman has been terminated in the wake of allegations involving theft of city funds.

The City of Erie in a statement Thursday Altman was arrested Wednesday on fcharges related to an investigation into missing funds of the city.

The criminal complaint filed Thursday afternoon by Neosho County Attorney Sheryl Bussard alleges two counts of felony theft by deception involving the taking of just over 4,500 dollars involving ten deposits alleged to have occurred December 1st, 2025, and February 25th of this year, and eight counts of making a false writing alleged to have occurred in February.

The investigation sis being handled by the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office and is ongoing. The statement said the city is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and public trust.

Altman made an initial court appearance Thursday, and her next hearing has been set for May 19th in Chanute.
