Hutchinson left-handed pitcher Jessica Schmidt was named the Jayhawk Conference Division I Pitcher of the Week for the second-straight week on Tuesday.
Schmidt, a sophomore from Norfolk, Nebraska, was asked to go above and beyond last week for the 4-0 Blue Dragons.
For the week, Schmidt was 2-0 with one save as the Blue Dragons clinched the KJCCC championship and reached the 40-win plateau.
In Game 1 on Wednesday at Pratt, Schmidt worked a career-long seven innings in relief as the Blue Dragons clinched a tie for the league title with a come-from-behind 8-6 win in 10 innings. Schmidt struck out a career-high 11 batters while allowing four hits and three runs.
Against Cloud County on Saturday at Fun Valley, Schmidt extended her nation’s lead in saves to eight with 1 2-3 inning where she retired all five Cloud County batters she faced in a 5-3 win.
In Game 2, Schmidt worked 3 2-3 innings of relief with eight strikeouts to earn her seventh win of the season.
For the week, Schmidt worked 12 1-3 innings and allowed four hits and three runs with 20 strikeouts.
This is the fourth time a Blue Dragon pitcher has been named the Pitcher of the Week for the KJCCC and Schmidt is the seventh player overall to earn league weekly honors this season.
Schmidt and the Blue Dragons will be the No. 1 seed for the Region 6 Tournament, which begins Friday in Dodge City. Hutchinson will open the tournament with Pratt at Noon at Legends Park.
