The Hesston College softball team placed three players on the Continental Athletic Conference all-conference teams as announced by the conference office on Wednesday (April 29). Skye Gomez (Jr., Corona, Calif.) was named to the first team as an infielder while Chloe Merjil (Fr., Belle Fourche, S.D.) and Mia Manzo (Fr., Palm Springs, Calif.) earned honorable mention nods.
One of the few upperclassmen on the team, Gomez provided experience and leadership for a very young Lark squad. The junior started all 42 games for the Larks at first base posting a team-best .361 average with 44 hits including six doubles. She batted in 18 runs and scored 20 runs herself while only striking out four times in 122 at bats.
Merjil was a brick wall behind the plate for the Larks and served as a solid leadoff hitter for much of the season. Merjil posted a .350 average with 42 hits including eight doubles and two home runs. Merjil led the Larks with 30 RBI and 22 runs scored. She also drew a team high 16 walks to help her to a .432 on base percentage.
Manzo made 36 starts at shortshtop for the Larks and posted a .293 batting average with 34 hits including a pair of doubles. Manzo drove in 12 runs and crossed the plate herself 19 times. The California native also protected the plate incredibly well, striking out only twice in 116 at bats.
