Only two events were completed at the Nickerson Invitational track meet Friday night before rain forced the meet to be suspended.
“We only got two events before the downpour and thunderstorm,” said Nickerson track coach Parker Bruce. “The likelihood of us rescheduling is slim to none as many teams are starting their midseason two-meet a week schedule.
“We are at Buhler JV and Larned for example next week on a Tuesday-Friday split. Our (Nickerson) schedule is two-meets per week up until the CKL Meet. Unfortunate, but that’s part of the spring season.”
Bruce said the KSHSAA will have to decide whether the two events that took place will count.
“We are going speak to KSHSAA about that,” Bruce said. “In some cases they may allow for that meet to be non-existent, scratching the marks in place, which would allow for everyone that only competed in one event to be eligible for another meet.”
Before the rains came, Nickerson senior Elizabeth Dick and junior teammate Katy King placed first and second in the girls shot put with efforts of 33 feet, 6 inches and 32-6.
Hutchinson Trinity Catholic’s Azlyn Cost and Eilley Cost placed third and fourth in the girls shot put (30-10 and 30-7.5). Teammate Cienna Maskil placed ninth (25-10.25). Leon-Bluestem’s Jazmen Caywood finished fifth (30-2).
Also completed was the girls pole vault competition, with Hoisington athletes Annabelle Gonzalez, Miette Kiser and Madison Henning placing first, third and fourth (8-0, 6-0 and 6-0).
Hutchinson Trinity’s Kara Nelson placed second in the girls pole vault (7-0).
After two events, Nickerson and Hoisington were tied for first place with 14 team points. Hutchinson Trinity ws third with 12 points. Leon-Bluestem scored 1 point.
