Barton’s Alvord Named Week 10 KJCCC Division I Player of the Week

Karter Alvord of the Barton Community College softball team has been named the Week 10 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Division I Player of the Week.

Alvord powered Barton to a 3-1 week, hitting .700 (seven-for-10) with eight runs scored and 12 RBI while compiling a 1.700 slugging percentage and .769 on-base percentage across four games. The sophomore shortstop delivered extra-base damage with three doubles, two triples, and a home run, while also drawing three walks and reaching base in 10 of her 13 plate appearances on the week. Defensively, Alvord was equally steady, recording seven putouts and three assists without committing an error.

The McPherson, Kansas, native opened the week with a monster performance in game one Wednesday at Garden City, going three-for-four with two doubles and a home run while driving in six runs. On Saturday, Alvord was flawless in the Fort Hays Tech Northwest sweep, combining to go four-for-four with a pair of walks, six runs scored, and six RBI, highlighted by a triple and a five-RBI performance in the finale.

The honor is the third for the Cougars this season, joining Charley Wheeler‘s week three pitching distinction and Carly Erpelding‘s week five player honor.

Most recently, Alvord delivered a pair of home runs as part of her 3-of-5 performance today helping Barton to a twinbill sweep hosting Pratt Community College. Alvord’s solo shot leading off game one’s sixth inning provided the game winner of the 10-8 decision while another solo shot capped the Cougars’ 4-0 victory in the nightcap.

Now 14-6 in Jayhawk Conference play and 22-16 overall, Alvord and the Cougars embark on a tough two-date road trip beginning Saturday traveling to Hutchinson Community College followed a Wednesday journey to El Dorado taking on Butler Community College. A 1:00 p.m. first pitch doubleheader slated for each. Barton’s next home game comes Saturday, April 18, hosting Seward County Community College.
