Sterling High School Student-athletes Compete at 1A State Powerlifting Meet

Seven Sterling High School student-athletes competed in the 1A State Powerlifting meet on Saturday at Conway Springs.

The Black Bear boys placed ninth in the team standings with 17 points. The Sterling girls placed 10th with 12 points.

Each competitor made three attempts in the three lifts (bench, squat, and clean). The top three in each lift medaled as did the top six overall in each weight group.

Six of Sterling’s seven lifters placed in the top six in their weight groups. Many personal records (PRs) were set as well:

Cora Svaty: 3rd squat 170 pounds, 3rd clean 110, 3rd overall 370, tied 2 PRs.

Blaine Locke: 3rd bench 130, 2nd squat 215, 3rd clean 125, 3rd overall 470, 6th overall power ratio of all female lifters, 1 PR.

Hayden Dobson: 1 PR.

Bryson Thomas: 2nd squat 405, 3rd clean 255, 2nd overall 895, 10th overall power ratio of all lifters), 1 PR.

Cody Hook: 5th overall 875, 3 PRs.

Cale Thomas: 2nd squat 395, 3rd overall 860, 1 PR, tied 1 PR.

Kevin Ploutz: 6th overall 865, 1 PR, tied 1 PR.
