Firefighters from Harvey and Reno counties battled a large grass fire near the county line northwest of Burrton Friday afternoon into the evening hours.

The fire that began around 3:30 p.m. was generally in an area between Northwest 12th and 24th Streets between Woodberry and Wheat State Roads, Woodberry being the county line.

Harvey County Government stated that the area of the fire is one that is historically tricky, with a landscape that is prime fuel for fires and wind conditions complicating the response as well.

Fire and EMS Units from Burrton, Halstead, Hesston, Moundridge, Mount Hope, Newton and Sedgwick responded, with support from Harvey and Reno County Emergency Management, the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office, and Burrton, Halstead and Newton Police. The cause of the fire is under investigation.Â
