HUTCHINSON, Kan. – [March 27, 2026]- The City of Hutchinson has appointed Jeremy Unruh as Fire Chief for the Hutchinson Fire Department.
A 27-year veteran of the Hutchinson Fire Department and a second-generation firefighter, Unruh steps into the role with deep experience, strong leadership, and a long-standing commitment to serving the Hutchinson community. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in advancing the department’s operations, training, and service delivery.
As Fire Chief, Unruh will lead a department recognized at the highest levels of the profession, including earning ISO Class 1 status and international accreditation. Distinctions that reflect a commitment to excellence and public safety.
In a letter to the community, Chief Unruh shared the following:
“To the citizens of Hutchinson and Fire District #2,
I am honored to introduce myself as your new Fire Chief. I am extremely proud to have been selected to lead such an outstanding team of men and women who are dedicated to the protection and safety of this community. As a second-generation firefighter with 27 years of service at HFD, I am deeply committed to this community and to providing a premier level of service to Hutchinson and Fire District #2.
Our department has a strong path forward, guided by a clear vision and goals developed collaboratively by the community and members of HFD. Grounded in our core values of Teamwork, Commitment, and Trust, I am dedicated to ensuring our firefighters have the tools, equipment, and training necessary to meet your needs. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement, I am confident we will continue to deliver a top-tier service.
